The great thing about AdSense is that Google splits part of the money with the website owner who hosts the ads for them. This is how you can benefit from hosting Google AdSense ads. They then select keywords that are relevant to the product they are trying to sell.

Every time someone types in one of their keywords on Google, their ad appears on the side of the page. Every time someone types search a bidding process is going on.

Depending on how much an advertiser is willing to pay, determines the placing of their ad. In addition to appearing on Google's website, advertisers can choose to have their ads placed on relevant sites in the Google network. This is where AdSense comes into play.
